11 Apr VOCABULARY: USE, EXTEND and ENCOURAGE!
Parents, it is wise that we know, use, encourage and increase the understanding and number of words our children use.
WHY?
Because thinking is the most important element in the learning process. Thinking requires language and vocabulary skills. The child can only express his ideas and his knowledge through the use of his language. We need to provide many concrete experiences to increase and extend the child’s vocabulary.
Below is a list of vocabulary to use in as many different contexts as possible. Use this vocabulary when playing age appropriate games and activities. Add to this vocabulary list and have fun while sharing and doing!

Position:-
above, below, beneath, bottom, top, in, out, over, under, up, down, left, right, front, at the front, back, at the back, behind, near, near to, first, last, middle, next, inside, on, before, after, between, first to tenth position.
Measurement:-
long, longer, longest, short, shorter, shortest, longer than, shorter than, heavy, heavier, heaviest, light, lighter, lightest, heavier than, lighter than, shallow, deep, wide, narrow, full, empty, low, high, tall, taller, tallest.
Time:-
today, yesterday, tomorrow, days of the week, months of the year, special holidays, birthdays, Christmas, Eid, etc., morning, afternoon, night, dawn, dusk, evening, sunrise, sunset, activities associated with different times of the day: breakfast, lunch, supper, analogue clock for telling the time.
Shapes:-
square, circle, triangle, rectangle, oval, diamond, hexagon, octagon, pentagon, box, ball.
Colour:-
red, yellow, blue, green, white, black, orange, purple, pink, darker, lighter.
Size:-
small, big, little, large, medium, smaller than, bigger than, biggest, smallest, the same size as.
Calculations:-
add on, take away, more, less, how many more? how many less? equal, equal to, solve the problem, all together, left, under estimate, over estimate.
Money:-
rand, cents, coins, notes, change, purse, wallet.
Playing with containers:-
full, empty, share, pour, drip, squirt, shake, fill, measure, float, sink, open, close, light, heavy, sponge, shower, roll, slide, twist, lift, turn, easy, hard, difficult.
